Kiama is a picturesque seaside town, a short distance from Sydney. If you are looking for a day trip or longer here are my 6 reasons to visit Kiama:
1. Great Beaches with 2 Rock Pools
There are a number of great beaches at Kiama for surfing, swimming or just relaxing with a walk along the beach. Close by is Bombo Beach great for surfing and is dog friendly.
There are 2 rock pools at Kiama with crysal clear water.
2. Accommodation – The Sebel Kiama Harbourside
My preferred accommodation at Kiama is The Sebel. This hotel is central to the beach, rock pools and city centre. The view at the main dining/bar at The Sebel has a spectacular view of the fishing harbour with a vast array of different sized fishing boats.
3. Beautiful Seaside Walks
Kiama has beautiful seaside walks all along the foreshore. The Kiama Coastal Walk extends north to Minnamurra and south to Gerringong. It stays close to the coast and has beautiful ocean views.
4. Blowhole and Lighthouse
The Kiama Lighthouse was built in 1887 and the light was imported from England. The Kiama Blowhole was created by a natural rock formation. The water can shoot anywhere up to 20 metres and is a great tourist attraction for all ages.
5. Seaside Markets
Every 3rd Sunday a seaside market is held at Kiama along the foreshore. Local handmade gifts/products, samples of local made jams, nuts, spreads, leather goods, and selection of plants are all on offer at the stalls. The Seaside Markets has a beautiful ocean backdrop.
6. A Scenic Inland Drive to Bowral
If you would like to take in the Southern Highlands on your return drive to Sydney, why not take an inland detour to Bowral. If you haven’t already read our review on Bowral, please read our post A Weekend Away in Bowral, Southern Highlands NSW.
